Removals Kingston Health and Safety Policy
Removals Kingston is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for our employees, customers, contractors and members of the public who may be affected by our removal and relocation activities. This Health and Safety Policy sets out our approach to managing health and safety risks in all aspects of our removals and related services.
Our Health and Safety Commitment
We recognise that professional removal work involves manual handling, vehicle use, access to private and commercial premises and the handling of a wide variety of items and equipment. We are committed to identifying, controlling and reducing the risks associated with these activities and to continually improving our health and safety performance.
Management at Removals Kingston will ensure that health and safety is given equal importance to other core business objectives and that adequate resources are provided to implement this policy effectively.
Legal Responsibilities
Removals Kingston will comply with all applicable health and safety legislation, regulations and approved codes of practice relevant to the moving and storage industry. We will keep our procedures under review to ensure they remain in line with current legal requirements and recognised best practice for removal companies.
Employees and contractors are required to co-operate with the company to enable all legal and policy obligations to be met. Everyone working with or for Removals Kingston must take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions.
Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work
We will identify hazards associated with our services, assess the risks arising from those hazards and implement appropriate control measures. This includes, but is not limited to, risks involving manual handling, working at height, vehicle movements, use of lifting equipment, handling fragile or high-value items and access to customer premises.
Site-specific risk assessments will be carried out for removal projects where necessary, particularly where there are unusual access issues, heavy or awkward items, restricted spaces or shared public areas. Safe systems of work will be developed and communicated to all relevant personnel before the job begins.
Manual Handling and Use of Equipment
Removals Kingston recognises that manual handling is a core part of removal operations and a key source of potential injury. We will minimise manual handling risks by planning work carefully, using mechanical aids where reasonably practicable and ensuring loads are within safe lifting limits for our staff.
All employees involved in lifting and carrying will receive training in correct manual handling techniques, use of removal equipment such as trolleys, dollies, ramps and protective covers, and the safe handling of bulky, fragile or irregularly shaped items. Damaged or defective equipment will be removed from service immediately and reported to management.
Vehicles, Driving and Road Safety
Our vehicles will be maintained in a safe and roadworthy condition and will be inspected and serviced in line with manufacturer guidelines and legal requirements. Loads will be packed and secured to prevent shifting during transit, and access ways within vehicles will be kept clear to reduce trip and fall risks.
Drivers must hold appropriate licences, follow road traffic laws and drive in a manner that prioritises safety over speed. Fatigue management, route planning and realistic scheduling will be used to limit unnecessary pressure on driving staff and to reduce the risk of accidents.
Customer and Public Safety
We will take all reasonable steps to protect customers, visitors and members of the public during removal operations. This includes maintaining clear walkways, using warning signs or barriers where required, and carefully managing loading and unloading in areas where other people are present.
Where removal work takes place in shared buildings, commercial premises or busy residential areas, our teams will co-ordinate movements, communicate clearly with those nearby and minimise noise, obstruction and disruption as far as reasonably practicable.
Training, Information and Supervision
Removals Kingston will provide employees with appropriate health and safety training relevant to their roles, including induction training for new starters and refresher training when procedures, equipment or legal requirements change. Topics will include manual handling, safe driving, equipment use, hazard awareness and emergency procedures.
Supervisors and team leaders are responsible for monitoring safe working practices on site, providing guidance, addressing unsafe behaviour and ensuring that staff understand and follow company procedures. Instructions and safety information will be communicated clearly and in a form that is accessible to all relevant workers.
Incident Reporting and Investigation
All accidents, near misses, injuries, unsafe conditions and health concerns must be reported as soon as possible to the appropriate manager or supervisor. Reports will be recorded and investigated to identify root causes and to implement corrective actions aimed at preventing recurrence.
Where necessary, lessons learned from incidents will be shared with staff through briefings or updated procedures. We encourage open reporting and do not tolerate victimisation of individuals who raise genuine health and safety concerns.
Welfare, Health and Wellbeing
We recognise the importance of welfare and wellbeing in maintaining a safe workforce. Where reasonably practicable, we will ensure access to basic welfare facilities such as drinking water, rest breaks and sanitary arrangements appropriate to the work being undertaken.
We will also take account of the physical and mental demands of removal work, including lifting, repetitive movements, time pressures and customer interaction, and will plan workloads to reduce the risk of stress, exhaustion and related health problems.
Consultation and Continuous Improvement
Removals Kingston values the input of employees in identifying hazards and improving health and safety performance. We will consult with staff and, where applicable, their representatives on proposed changes to working practices, equipment or procedures that may affect health and safety.
This policy and its supporting procedures will be reviewed periodically and whenever there are significant changes in our activities, working methods or relevant legislation. We are committed to continuous improvement and to maintaining high standards of health and safety across all our moving and related services.
Responsibilities and Policy Review
Overall responsibility for health and safety rests with the senior management of Removals Kingston. Day-to-day implementation is delegated to managers, supervisors and team leaders, who must ensure that this policy is applied on every job and at every location where we operate.
Employees at all levels share responsibility for working safely, following training and instructions, using equipment correctly and reporting hazards. This Health and Safety Policy is communicated to all staff and is available to customers and stakeholders on request. It will be reviewed regularly to ensure it remains appropriate to the nature and scale of our operations and the services we provide.
